NUST GPA Calculator

For undergraduate students at NUST and its constituent institutions. The Undergraduate Student Handbook of 7 November 2023 sets the grade points (A 4.00, B+ 3.50, B 3.00, C+ 2.50, C 2.00, and D+ 1.50 and D 1.00 for undergraduates) and says a W “shall not be considered for computation of GPA”. Enter each course's credit hours and grade for your semester GPA, or every semester together for your CGPA.

NUST grade points

GradeGrade pointsCounted in the GPA?
A4.00Yes
B+3.50Yes
B3.00Yes
C+2.50Yes
C2.00Yes
D+ (undergraduate only)1.50Yes
D (undergraduate only)1.00Yes
F0.00Yes
XF (F for attendance shortage)0.00Yes
I (Incomplete)noneNo
W (Dropped)noneNo
Q (Qualified)noneNo
T (Transfer)noneNo

The handbook notes that a Q grade applies to specified courses under NUST policy, and that a W appears on the transcript against the course but is not considered for the GPA.

The GPA formula used here

GPA = Σ(grade points × credit hours) ÷ Σ(credit hours)

This is the standard credit-weighted average. The handbook sets the grade points, the relative-grading scale and which grades are left out, but does not print this equation, so we show it as the usual method rather than as a NUST formula.

Worked example

CourseCredit hoursGradePointsCredit hours × points
Course 13A4.0012.00
Course 23B+3.5010.50
Course 33B3.009.00
Course 41C+2.502.50

Total credit hours = 10, total points = 34.00, so GPA = 34.00 ÷ 10 = 3.40.

Standing and credits

  • A student must obtain a minimum of 1.0 grade points in a course to earn its credits.
  • The minimum CGPA for the award of a degree is 2.00, or 2.50 for the programmes listed in the FAQ above.
  • An F or XF, a semester GPA below 2.00, a CGPA below 2.00 or an I grade make a student academically deficient under the handbook.

Why no percentage is shown

The handbook publishes no CGPA-to-percentage formula, so this page shows none. If a form asks for a percentage, ask the Examination Branch for an equivalence letter rather than converting the figure yourself.

Grade points and rules follow the NUST Undergraduate Student Handbook dated 7 November 2023, read on 20 September 2026. Regulations change; confirm with your institution's Examination Branch before relying on a figure.

Frequently asked questions

What are the NUST grade points?

From the Undergraduate Student Handbook: A 4.00, B+ 3.50, B 3.00, C+ 2.50, C 2.00, D+ 1.50 (undergraduate only), D 1.00 (undergraduate only), F 0.00, and XF 0.00 for an F caused by shortage of attendance. I (Incomplete), W (Dropped), Q (Qualified) and T (Transfer) carry no grade points.

Does NUST use relative grading?

Yes. Paragraph 20 of the handbook says the University follows a relative grading system on a scale of 1.00 to 4.00 points. That means the marks behind a letter grade depend on the class, so the handbook publishes no fixed percentage band per grade, and neither does this page.

What CGPA do I need at NUST?

The handbook requires a minimum CGPA of 2.00 for the award of an undergraduate degree, and 2.50 for BBA, BS Economics, BS Public Administration, BS Mass Communication, BS Accounting & Finance and BS Psychology. A student must also earn at least 1.0 grade points in a course to earn its credits.

How does this calculator work out the average?

It multiplies each course’s grade points by its credit hours, adds those products and divides by the total credit hours: the standard credit-weighted average used in the semester system. The handbook we read prints the grade points and the exclusion rules but not the arithmetic itself, so treat the method as the usual one rather than a quoted NUST formula, and compare with your transcript.

Is a NUST GPA the same as an aggregate for admission?

No. Admission merit is a different calculation from NET, HSSC and SSC scores. Use the NUST aggregate calculator for that.
