What this calculator does
“GPA to CGPA” is really a question about combining terms. Your semester GPA is already an average; the CGPA is the average of those averages, weighted by how many credits each term carried. This page implements exactly that. It is the right tool when your transcript lists a GPA per semester but no cumulative figure, or when you want to project what next semester would do to your overall standing.
The GPA into CGPA formula
CGPA = ÎŁ(GPAi Ă— creditsi) Ă· ÎŁ(creditsi)
Multiply each semester’s GPA by its credits, add those products, and divide by the total credits. This is the definition used by HEC Pakistan, UGC-pattern universities in India and US registrars alike; only the scale (4.0, 5.0 or 10) changes.
Worked example (4.0 scale)
| Semester | GPA | Credits | GPA Ă— credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 3.20 | 16 | 51.2 |
| 2 | 3.60 | 18 | 64.8 |
| 3 | 3.85 | 15 | 57.75 |
| 4 | 3.40 | 17 | 57.8 |
| Total | 66 | 231.55 |
CGPA = 231.55 Ă· 66 = 3.51. A simple average of the four GPAs would give 3.51 as well here because the credit loads are similar; with a 12-credit semester and a 21-credit semester the two methods diverge noticeably.
Worked example (10-point scale)
Three semesters of 8.2 (24 credits), 7.6 (22 credits) and 8.9 (26 credits): (196.8 + 167.2 + 231.4) ÷ 72 = 595.4 ÷ 72 = 8.27 CGPA. To turn that into a percentage, use the India CGPA to Percentage page and pick your university’s formula.
Projecting next semester
Add a row for the coming term with the credits you plan to take and the GPA you expect. The result shows what your CGPA would become. If you need a specific target, the Target GPA calculator solves the reverse problem: the GPA you must earn next term to reach a given CGPA.
How to combine GPA into CGPA with this calculator
- Enter the GPA and credits for your first semester.
- Add a row for each further semester (any number).
- Read the credit-weighted CGPA; it updates as you type.
- Remove a row to see how your CGPA would look without it.
