Conversion formula

Standard HEC formula: percentage = (CGPA / 4.0) × 100.

How it differs from standard HEC

Engineering, EE and CS departments use relative grading (curve set per cohort), so the same raw 75% can earn a B in one semester and an A in another. CS A-grade cut-offs typically cluster around 80–85%.

ECAT and Pakistani engineering admissions

ECAT (Engineering College Admission Test) is the entry test shared by UET Lahore, UET Peshawar, UET Taxila, and several other engineering universities in Pakistan. The aggregate formula combines your Matric, FSc Pre-Engineering, and ECAT scores into a single number that determines your position on the merit list.

Standard ECAT formula

aggregate = Matric × 0.17 + FSc × 0.50 + ECAT × 0.33

The FSc weight is by far the largest single component, which is why students with strong FSc results often clear engineering merit even with average ECAT performance.

Step-by-step

  1. Enter Matric percentage.
  2. Enter FSc Pre-Engineering percentage.
  3. Enter ECAT score (out of 400 by default — adjust if your test was different).
  4. Read the aggregate.
  5. Compare with last year's closing merit for your department.

Tips for ECAT aggregate

  • FSc has the largest weight — improvement exams pay off.
  • Strong ECAT performance alone won't carry you if your FSc is below 75%.
  • Verify the test total marks before submitting your aggregate; some universities use a 400-mark ECAT, others a 200-mark variant.
  • Confirm your university's formula in the prospectus — non-UET universities sometimes vary.

Combine the ECAT aggregate calculator with the merit calculator to compare different universities side by side. allgradecalculator.com keeps both tools free.

Frequently asked questions

What is the ECAT aggregate formula?

The most common formula across UET Lahore, UET Peshawar, UET Taxila and PEC-affiliated universities is Matric 17% + FSc 50% + ECAT 33%.

Does NUST use ECAT?

No — NUST uses its own NET (NUST Entry Test). For NUST, the typical formula is Matric 10% + FSc 15% + NET 75%.

How is the ECAT score normalised?

ECAT is usually out of 400 marks. Divide your raw marks by 400 and multiply by 100 to get a percentage; the calculator does this for you when you enter score / total marks.
