SGPA to Percentage Calculator

Enter one semester’s SGPA and pick the conversion your university publishes. The percentage appears instantly. Most converters make you work out a CGPA first even when you only have a single semester’s result, which is an unnecessary extra step, since the same conversion applies to an SGPA directly.

Formula: percentage = (CGPA - 0.75) × 10

On a 10-point scale.

Why this is one step and not two

SGPA is the grade point average for a single semester. CGPA is the credit-weighted average across every semester so far. They are different numbers, but a university publishes one percentage conversion and applies it to both. So if you have a single semester’s SGPA and want the percentage, converting to CGPA first adds a step without changing the answer.

The conversions this calculator uses

University or systemFormulaWorked example
General Indian universities(SGPA − 0.75) × 108.0 SGPA → 72.5%
Anna University (Depts R-2015 to R-2019, affiliated R2021)SGPA × 108.0 SGPA → 80.0%
VTU, 2021 & 2022 schemesSGPA × 108.0 SGPA → 80.0%
VTU, 2015/2017/2018 schemes(SGPA − 0.75) × 108.0 SGPA → 72.5%
Mumbai University (7-point scale; former formula, repealed 2026)7.1 × SGPA + 116.0 SGPA → 53.6%
CBSE (10-point)SGPA × 9.58.0 SGPA → 76.0%

The scales differ. Most Indian universities and CBSE grade out of 10, Mumbai University out of 7. An SGPA of 8.0 does not exist on a 7-point scale, which is why the Mumbai row uses 6.0. The calculator limits your input to the maximum of whichever system you pick.

VTU is listed twice on purpose. It changed its conversion between schemes, so a 2018-batch student and a 2022-batch student get different percentages from the same SGPA. Check which scheme you were admitted under before using the result.

SGPA to percentage table, 7.50 to 9.50

Every SGPA from 7.50 to 9.50 in steps of 0.01, calculated with the calculator's own formulas. (SGPA − 0.75) × 10 covers many Indian universities and VTU's 2015/2017/2018 schemes; SGPA × 10 covers Anna University (affiliated R2021, Departments R-2015 to R-2019) and VTU's 2021 and 2022 schemes. For example, an 8.0 SGPA is 72.5% or 80%, and an 8.04 SGPA is 72.9% or 80.4%.

Where these formulas come from

Each conversion is the one the institution itself publishes, and the same formula objects power the CGPA to Percentage Calculator, so the two tools cannot give conflicting answers. Where a university publishes its own conversion table, that table is what counts on an official document, and it may differ from a general formula by several percentage points.

A note on accuracy

A converted percentage is an equivalence, not a mark you were awarded. Your grade statement is the authoritative document. Use this tool to understand your standing, compare offers, or fill in an informal form, and use the university-issued figure whenever an official one is asked for.

Frequently asked questions

How do I convert SGPA to percentage?

Apply whichever conversion your university publishes to the SGPA figure. Most Indian universities use (SGPA minus 0.75) times 10. Anna University Departments use SGPA times 10 (R-2015 to R-2019). VTU uses SGPA times 10 for the 2021 and 2022 schemes, and (SGPA minus 0.75) times 10 for the 2015, 2017 and 2018 schemes. Mumbai University repealed its 7.1 times SGPA plus 11 formula on 1 January 2026; colleges now calculate from actual marks. Pick your university above and the correct formula is applied.

What is 8.0 SGPA in percentage?

It depends on your university. Under the general Indian formula (SGPA minus 0.75) times 10, an 8.0 SGPA is 72.5%. At Anna University Departments it is 80.0%. Under VTU’s 2021 and 2022 schemes it is 80.0%. Under VTU’s older schemes it is 72.5%. Under CBSE’s 10-point scale it is 76.0%. Mumbai University is not comparable here, because it grades on a 7-point scale where the maximum SGPA is 7.0 rather than 10.0. Always use the conversion your own university publishes.

Is SGPA converted differently from CGPA?

No. Universities publish one conversion and it applies to both. SGPA is the grade point average for a single semester and CGPA is the credit-weighted average across semesters, but the percentage conversion itself is the same. That is why this calculator can go straight from SGPA to percentage.

Which formula should I use if my university is not listed?

Check your university’s examination regulations or your grade statement first, because the published conversion is the only one that counts on an official form. If your university publishes none, the general Indian formula is the most widely used, but label any result as an estimate and do not present it as an official equivalence.

Can I use this percentage on a job or admission application?

Use it to understand where you stand. For an application, submit the figure your university itself issues on your grade statement or transcript. Whether an employer or admission body accepts a converted percentage is their rule, not the university’s, so check the specific form.
